The Angelest- Qian (Male)

Inspiration
The artist hoped the Angels he portrayed to be messengers who could convey the message of East and West, and The Angelest are more concrete images of that wish. They have the wings of Western angels but have Asian faces. These “Little Chubby ”figures seem to have stepped out of years past and taken on the form of angels. They are dressed in nostalgic military uniforms, sitting on a high stool with their cheeks resting in their hands, silently pondering.
This is a state of angels in the artist’s mind: quiet, peaceful, warm, and sweet. Is he or she the most angel-like Angel? Does he or she have the expression closest to a real angel on his or her face? Or, is he or she simply the highest angel sitting somewhere? All interpretations are open to the viewer. For the artist, however, the birth of The Angelest belongs to the moment of greatest significance in his world - the moment when mortal hands poke open the gate of heaven, and from hence, angels line up descending to the “earth” (in Chinese “Kun” ).
